TRAINING WORKSHOP ON THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM FINANCING FROM 22 TO 25 MAY 2017 IN DAKAR IN SENEGAL
Under the auspices of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), a training workshop, jointly patronized by the Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) of France (TRACFIN) and Canada (FINTRAC), was held from 22 to 25 May 2017 at the Pullman Hotel Dakar Teranga on "the fight against the Financing of Terrorism".
In addition to the three NAFI representatives from Cameroon, the officials of the FIUs of twelve African countries participated, namely: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, the Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Seychelles, Chad, Togo and Tunisia.
Three major axes structured the content of this workshop.
First and foremost, it was a question of presenting stakeholders in the handling of financial intelligence related to the financing of terrorism. From the reporting entities to the law enforcement and national security agencies, through intelligence and supervisory bodies, the presentations highlighted experiences and best practices aimed at fostering the fluidity of information in this channel and thereby to optimize the results.
The second axis was devoted to the techniques of analysis of the Declarations of Suspicion in connection with the financing of terrorism.
Finally, the participants were enlightened on some typologies covering the financing of certain terrorist attacks perpetrated in Europe (France) as well as in Africa (Côte d'Ivoire).
This workshop was closed by the High Commissioner of Canada to Senegal.
