MEETING OF THE CIRCLE OF FRANCOPHONE INTELLIGENCE UNITS
At the invitation of the Head of MROS, the Swiss Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) held a meeting on 8 and 9 June 2017 at the Varembé Conference Centre in Geneva, Switzerland.
The FIUs of Cameroon, Niger, Belgium, Monaco, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Togo, Benin, Luxembourg and Switzerland took part at this meeting.
Chaired by the Director of the NAFI of Cameroon, Coordinator of the Circle of Francophone FIUs, this meeting followed the one held in Doha, Qatar, on the side-lines of the proceedings of the Egmont Group, during which members carried out a reorganisation of the said Circle.
The Geneva meeting had two essential articulations:
The first was on the sharing of information, experiences and best practices.
Participants were thus given three presentations, namely:
• A presentation by the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs on their new legislation on the recovery of assets;
• A presentation by the Chief of MROS
• A presentation by the Director of the CTIF of Belgium on the sharing of information with partner authorities.
The second articulation concerned the examination of certain issues on the agenda of the next meeting of the Egmont Group to be held in July in Macao.
